PAYE Modernisation Release 2: Bulk RPN Retrieval

Last week, we announced the release of Phase 1 of our major PAYE Modernisation changes – uploading of ROS Authorisation Certificates, which you can read about here.

As promised, we’re pleased to inform you that today we’ve released Phase 2: bulk retrieval of employee RPNs. As with the ROS Certificates, this is an important step in ensuring you’re ready to process payroll in 2019. This short and handy guide will take you through the steps of bulk RPN retrieval.

PAYE Modernisation Guide – Release 2

As part of this release,  SimplePay will automatically retrieve RPNs once for the 2019 tax year for all employees that have a PPSN but no RPN. This functionality will soon be expanded to provide daily automated updates.

As always, if you have any queries or concerns around this new functionality and process, please feel free to contact our friendly support team who will gladly assist.

  1. the certificate is active on ROS but its linked status on Simplepay and not allowing me to download new RPN’s.
    How do I correct this?

    1. Hi Rita

      Thanks for your comment

The linked status generally indicates that a certificate has been imported successfully but can’t be activated with ROS for some reason.

I have asked our super helpful support team to get in touch with you to try and resolve the issue.

        1. Hi Aisling, apologies for the delay. I will have the Support team reach out to you ASAP. Thank you for sending through the support email, the team will reply to you accordingly.

  2. Hi,
My simple pay account is saying that I can’t get my Ros Auth cert because it is an invalid format for my employer registration number. The number I have put in is correct so cannot understand what is the problem.

  4. I printed the Realease 1, 2, 3 and followed the steps. It worked fine for me so far and I have retrieved a RPN for a new employee we just started!
I won’t process my first Payroll until end of January and I hope the submission to Revenue will work.

It would be good to hear from someone who has already fully processed a Payroll !

  5. I am trying to run a second payroll for January and I am trying to retrieve RPNs in order to do so as is required to be undertaken in advance of every payroll being ran however I am not having much success. The error I am getting when I select retrieve RPNs under bulk actions is “The change you wanted was rejected.
Maybe you tried to change something you didn’t have access to.” which is not helpful. I note from the instructions above that as part of this release, SimplePay will automatically retrieve RPNs once for the 2019 tax year for all employees that have a PPSN but no RPN. This functionality will soon be expanded to provide daily automated updates. When will this be in place as it is essential to be able to retrieve RPNs daily or more than just the once as indicated.

    1. Hi Nora,
I hope you are well. I believe the Support team have managed to resolve your issue and assisted you in retrieving the updated RPN. Thank you for your patience. With regards to daily RPN updates, this functionality is currently live and you can see when last an employee’s RPN information was updated by Selecting the employee > select Basic Info > RPN information – the Last checked for Updates date and time will be displayed above the Update Now button. I hope this helps, please do let us know if you require any additional assistance.
